What initially drew you to hairdressing?
The ability to creatively express myself while making others feel confident and beautiful initially drew me to hairdressing. I love how a great hairstyle can completely transform someone's appearance and boost self-esteem. The art of sculpting and designing with hair has always fascinated me.
Why George? What was missing from other natural haircare brands that made you want to create your own?
I created George because I saw a gap in the market for genuinely inclusive and effective natural haircare products. After owning my holistic salon, I know what clients want. Many brands had good intentions, but I felt they often lacked performance, weren't clean enough, and didn't adequately cater to a diverse range of hair types and textures. I wanted George to be a brand that people could trust to deliver real results using the finest natural ingredients while also embracing and celebrating diversity.
What have been some of the highlights of your career so far?
One of the greatest highlights of my career has been opening my own holistic hair salon and wellness space seven years ago. This venture allowed me to create a sanctuary where beauty and well-being intersect. Our salon goes beyond hair care; it's a one-stop-shop that offers a comprehensive range of services, including naturopathy, nutrition, acupuncture, and brows. This holistic approach enables us to cater to our client's overall health and beauty needs, providing a space where they can rejuvenate both inside and out.
Another highlight is George's official launch and the overwhelmingly positive feedback we've received from our customers. Being recognised by leading beauty magazines and collaborating with industry influencers has also been incredibly rewarding. But honestly, the best moments are the everyday success stories of our users—those transformations mean the world to me.
What is your favourite thing about working in the beauty industry?
My favourite thing about working in the beauty industry is the community and the constant innovation. There's always something new to learn and explore, which keeps the passion alive. Plus, seeing the confidence and joy that beauty can bring to people's lives is truly fulfilling.
What is something you dislike about the beauty industry and what are your hopes for change in this area?
One thing I dislike about the beauty industry is the perpetuation of unrealistic beauty standards that can pressure people to look a certain way. I hope for more inclusivity and representation so everyone feels seen and valued. The industry is slowly progressing, but there's still a long way to go in promoting authenticity and self-love.
For people new to natural haircare, what is your one piece of advice for embracing their natural beauty with natural beauty products?
My advice is to approach natural haircare with patience and an open mind. Every individual's hair is unique, so it may take some time to discover the products and routines that work best for you. Embrace your hair's natural texture and beauty, and remember that the journey is as important as the destination. Natural products nurture your hair's health and vitality in a way that synthetic ones can't match.
